By varying the size/weight of the falling weight and the height of drop, the load impulse can be varied.
The load impulses correspond well with the speed of the moving traffic.
The test is not time intensive and as many as 200 readings can be taken in a single day.

Working with FWD

The FWD generates a load pulse by dropping a weight on the damped system mounted on a loading plate (As shown in the figure)
The falling mass, the spring system and the drop height can be adjusted to achieve the desired loading on the pavement.
