The process of creating perforations is called perforating, which involves puncturing the work-piece with a tool. Perforated Sheet Metal are usually used to allow easy separation of two sections of the material, filtration, sound deadening or for aesthetic value. MECHANISM: Die and punch sets are used for perforating metal sheets. The work-piece is sheared by pressing (either by machine or hand tool) the punch through the work-piece and into the die. The middle section of the work-piece is scrapped; commonly known as the Chad. The punch and die are shaped to produce the desired shaped hole.
